Our Fees

Our new approach to the BenefitsDirect platform still provides you with the same flexible, transparent, and accountable approach that we proudly introduced to the Canadian market in 2011. However, it’s now more efficient and effective than ever for our clients. The new scope of services is as follows for groups with up to 100 employees.

  • Memberships will no longer renew annually, rather each organization will configure services as required by BenefitsDirect in a “shopping cart” approach.
  • BenefitsDirect will no longer charge separate membership fees; we will be implementing and reporting a transparent flat commission level for the services in place for our clients.

Basic Brokerage Service

4% Commission ($1,500 min)

This level of support is designed for clients that want a truly direct experience in dealing with their benefits provider. For organizations with a robust HR or Finance department, this offering provides the most direct benefit management experience.

Immediate reduction of commission (4%) on plans where BenefitsDirect is appointed as the servicing agent, contributing to sustainably reducing costs by 5–25% annually.

We secure quotations and proposals from multiple group providers and relay the provider proposals “untouched” to your organization for internal use (as required). We then set up group benefits plans with the selected provider.

Exclusive access to BenefitsDirect’s buying groups, delivering scale not available by the company on its own or through a traditional agent.

We review and negotiate plan renewals (if needed) proactively on your behalf, and deliver the “untouched” renewal from the insurer along with revised rates (if applicable).

In addition to the basic “brokerage” level, the following levels may be added:

Service Support

BenefitsDirect’s team of dedicated service support works exclusively with the employee benefits providers to assist your plan administrator. We divert your workload as we help with ongoing planning, administration, and claim issue resolution rather than having to deal directly with the service provider.

Consulting Support

+2% Commission ($3,500 min),
2-year minimum

Efficiently manage your benefits plan with access to accredited industry experts to help format, analyze, make ongoing recommendations, and produce proper benefits reporting and ongoing ad-hoc advisory.

Plan Auditing & Engagement

+1% Commission ($2,500 min)

Reboot your current plan in place with best practices and industry trends considered. We offer comprehensive plan design audit, web-based stakeholder assessment/survey, and plan management recommendations.

Plan Benchmarking

+1% Commission ($1,500 min)

With our exclusive industry tools and databases, you can compare your benefit plan to thousands of other plans based upon geographic location, industry, organizational structure, size, and more. We use this data to help you navigate a plan approach that makes sense for you.

Plan Administration Support

+3% Commission ($3,500 min)

BenefitsDirect’s service team will complete the work that is normally handled internally. This includes completing enrollments, additions, deletions, billing statement reviews etc. We take the dad to day workload off of your team and we do this for you. For complete administration support this should be paired with Service Support.

BenefitsDirect members can simply subscribe to our Basic Brokerage level or build on it by adding the scope of service as needed on the account. Once the levels are selected, we instruct the group provider and implement the corresponding commission level. We annually render the scope of service as per the configuration. Consulting and Service Support can be added at any time for a 2-year minimum term.

Organizations with total employee benefit premiums greater than $150,000 per year may qualify for reduced fees. Please contact BenefitsDirect for more details.

Should a new client not have a program in-force at time of appointment, a 6% embedded annual fee ($5,500 minimum and 2-year minimum term) will apply due to mandatory Plan Benchmarking and Plan Audit Review required.
